Spartan Homes, Inc. is a company that prides itself on its ability to bring the craftsmanship, integrity, and commitment to your new home needs that so many builders seem to be lacking these days. We aren’t just building a house, we are building YOUR home, one of the most important things you will ever invest in both financially and emotionally.
We offer a full range of design/build services. You can choose from one of the designs we have already completed, we can modify an existing plan, or we can develop something entirely new incorporating all of your individual needs. We believe in working with you as part of the team in order to build your new home the way you have always envisioned.
Eric Henry: My Story
The Spartan Homes Story begins with a vision and two friends: Eric Henry and Ed Cofsky. We had a dream to build a better home starting with great bones, better standard features, and having the homeowner be able to customize anything they wanted. Currently, we are a family dedicated to building relationships and dream homes.
My Roots
I grew up in the construction business with my family. My grandfather who owned a large masonry business in Northern Virginia employed my grandmother, father, and uncle. During my free time from school and under their wing I started off laboring, running blueprints, learning the business, and how to treat people. Following college, I felt a need to serve my country and did so in the late 80s and early 90’s as an Apache helicopter crew chief for the Army. After serving in Desert Storm/Desert Shield and fulfilling my commitment I returned home and started estimating for a small insurance restoration company. During this time, I estimated and project-managed thousands of claims ranging from small to full home rebuilds, remodels, and additions.
After opening and managing a branch office and helping them expand to a very large company, I decided it was time to step out on my own. In 2004 I opened Spartan Homes Inc. Ed handled sales with us before he passed; everyone in the Spartan family misses Ed. He was my best friend, and like our big brother to all of us. During this time, my children have grown up and I am fortunate enough that three of them have found a passion for building custom homes alongside with me. With the support of my wife Victoria, my children, and my longtime friend and Superintendent Bryan Houff as the core of our business we strive to build a good relationship with everyone and at the same time build a quality dream home exactly the way you want it.
The Spartan Name
Since watching Kirk Douglas in “Spartacus” as a young person, I was always enamored by the story of the Spartans. I drew comparisons to a Spartan when in the military as someone that was self-restrained, focused on the mission, simple and economical. As mentioned earlier, I started learning about construction early and so have my children. We focus on performing the thousands of tasks required to build a custom home and strive to perform them with military precision. There are so many things for homeowners to consider. During the home build we map them out in a precise and direct process to make the many decisions less daunting, less confusing, and less stressful.
Spartan Homes Inc in 2019
In the last 15 years, we have partnered with hundreds of clients building their custom dream homes and over 100 other projects from large remodels, additions, detached garages, and other smaller projects. We concentrate on building a relationship that transcends throughout the home build. W hen you drive around the Lake Anna area you will see hundreds of Spartan Homes yard signs on existing and completed projects. We have customers from 13 years ago that has kept their signs in the yard looking new because they want to, not because they are getting paid to. My Grandfather always told me to “treat people better than you wanted to be treated”, so we truly focus on trying to build every home like we are building Grandma and Grandpa’s house. “We strive to do what we say and say what we do.” – Eric Henry, Founder and president
